Lady Gaga shocks viewers in a meat dress at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards held Sunday night, September 12.  I think artist are just going a little too far sometimes. I'm sure Lady Gaga has let down a few fans, especially the PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) members, vegans, animal right activists ACROSS THE WORLD. The president of PETA, Ingrid Newkirk was not impressed, I'm sure.

Sometimes you got to know when to draw the line. You're in the public eye, Gaga, think before you act.  Sorry I love your music, but this was an OCULAR DISGRACE!!!!

I'm not a vegan, vegetarian, carnivore, etc. DO NOT CATEGORIZE ME. Just because I eat meat, doesn't mean, I'm not going to dine at a vegan or vegetarian restaurant. Eat in moderation.  Your body is a living being and it tells you what's naturally good for it; simply by the reaction it gives you. If you feel gassy, dehydrated, have diarrhea, or constipated; you know the last thing you ingested was not good for your system.

I came across a vegan restaurant while searching for a different cuisine to enjoy. "Sun in Bloom (SIB)" is a fairly new restaurant in Park Slope Brooklyn, NY. They have been on the market for nine (9) months and their food is SLAMMING. Although, it was lunch time, I settled on SIB's energizer breakfast burrito; daily bean, brown rice, tofu scramble, fresh salsa with a kick and avocado slices. All I can say, is that I went back four times in two days. I surely was not eating in moderation and a chuck of my income went to this kitchen.  They are a bit pricey, but can you tell me what vegan restaurant isn't? I'm also on their mailing list. So, let me share with you what they have sent me.

TAKING OUT "LOCS" (DREADLOCKS) AND LOCKING YOU CHILD'S HAIR

I NEED A LITTLE INPUT

I'm a black woman, who's hopes to have children one day. My boyfriend and I do have "Locs" (dreadlocks) and my friends and family assumes we'll have children with "Locs" as well. Personally I don't want to lock my children's hair. I think that's a personal discussion made on a spiritual level, or however you see it. I locked my hair because I wanted to try something new. I believed it was time for change; by grounding myself and preparing to start a family. I made "Locs" a part of my transition.  My boyfriend is awesome, spiritual and disciplined. He wants us to be a family with "Locs." So we're in a constant battle about locking our first child's hair.

Let me know what are your thoughts about locking a child's hair?


I came across this inspirational family on http://www.youtube.com/. They are taking out their son Khalil's "Locs." We can see (in this video), "Locs" can be untangled without a problem. As long as the coiled- locked in pattern is not complicated.

It's such a turn on to hear a man talk about how beautiful natural hair is; either it be the natural hair of a Black woman, Latina, Asian, Caucasian, etc. I personally do not have a distorted image about the effects of perms and relaxers. Perms make straighter hair curly while relaxers makes curly hair straighter.   Hair is whatever. Wear it curly, long, straight, short, permed or relaxed. My issues are based on chemicals and how they are used. Some women  and even men abuse perms and relaxers, leaving their hair and scalp abused. Anything that can burn it's way through a beverage can, can't possibly be good for your health.

OK, I've been natural since possibly high school.  I was going through that perm- meets- micro braids-meets finally virgin hair phase. I call it a phase, because I didn't truly wear my own hair; you know weaves, braids etc. When I finally loved my "fro" was when I woke up one morning, wet it, and realized I could really go out in public without feeling like a complete mess. I loved my coils and delighted in it.  I finally locked up in 2006, YAY!!!. WHY? you ask, if you asked. I wanted to try something new. You could find it at your near by liquidators, CVS, RITE-AIDE, DUANE REED on SALE. I don't suggest anyone pay full price. I barely every condition my hair. But let the rumors rest; you can condition your hair as often and wash your hair as often as you wish. Shampooing tangles your hair, a MUST to the process of locs. As far as maintaining it's healthy appearance. I use two must have products. 1) Natural Elegance Lock UP: Shea &  Coco Butter. 2) Herbe Life Productions; Crown Heights, Rosemary Hemp Hair oil (Liquid Gold).

9/11/01

WHY?

Today is September 11th, 2010; nine years since the attack on the trade center. To tell you the truth, I don't know why I decided to make this an entry.  I was a mess. I was miles away from my family not knowing what could have been,  if I'd be able to speak to them again. Friends around me trying to make phone calls, professors and administrators rushing me out of class to tell me the horrific news.  And when all the smoke and ashes cleared, 2,996 people were judged before God that day. The United States of America; government, state officials and people who live here, before then, did not know true genocide. On 9/11/01, we felt 1/5 of what went on in Darfur, Rwanda, Srebrenica and Sudan. It's a blessing that we are the United States of America, that the government can lift us back up and help us some how. Our economy is at its worst since 1930, but we can still receive some type of support. You tell that to the poor people suffering in the slush that they call their homes. Third world countries never had it as good as we do. So instead of crying and cursing our lives. Lets thank God 8,000 weren't massacred between those twin towers.
